Color Obsession: rainbow row of colors

I love this Kate Spade board covering up the store renovations in Shangrila Mall! With the purses, shoes & clothes lined up according to color - in rows resembling a rainbow!

It reminded me of other everyday things I've seen lined up according to the colors of the rainbow. Like books...

More books... This time on a bookshelf...

Pencils... Yes, my colored pencils are always arranged this way.

Bridesmaid dresses (which you might remember from here)...

Rainboots...

Stilettos...

This growing trend of pretty rainbow cakes...

And even people! Haha!

Isn't it so much fun?

P.S. Like I warned you here, this is one of those long overdue posts. So by now, the Kate Spade store in Shangri-la Mall might already be open!

Whimsical Wednesday!

Isn't this such an adorable kid's room? I love the whimsical touch of a ferris wheel for storage. Imagine how fun it would be to spin the wheel around to get to the toys you want to play with! And wouldn't it make packing away so much more fun?

I plan to re-decorate Noah's room in a few months so was looking through my inspiration folder and found these old photos from Sweet Paul Magazine. The issue talks about how the ferris wheel actually utilizes the dead space near the ceiling. So it's not only playful & inventive, it's also functional & a clever use of space. I think the mix of wood and the playful elements make the room one that can grow with the child. Oh, and notice the carpet? They're actually smaller rugs stitched together so that when an inevitable permanent spill happens (as is natural in every kid's room) mom can replace just the damaged rug rather than a whole carpet. Plus, the patchwork of rugs looks pretty cool, right?

Loving the whimsy in this kid's room! Have a whimsical Wednesday!

Found: Celine-ish Box Bag

Remember how I was lusting after Celine box bags here?

Well, guess what I found in SM department store yesterday? Isn't it pretty Celine-ish?

Oddly, even though I've been drawn to these authentic camel Celine box bags...

... I decided to get this gray one.

Too bad it wasn't available in more colors like the real thing. Would have wanted a blue-green one or that almond color I've been swooning over here.

But I have to say, at P629.75 (about US$14.50), I wouldn't mind letting undesirable, damaging things - more rainwater, than a cigarette though for me (see related post here) - near my Celine-ish box bag.

Can't wait to use my Celine-ish box bag!

some polka dots i spotted...

Trent Walton on Blogs:

"There's something sacred about reading a blog post on someone else's site. It's like visiting a friend's house for a quick meal 'round the breakfast table. It's personal - you're in their space, and the environment is uniquely suited for idea exchange and uninterrupted conversation. In many ways, we should be treating our blogs like our breakfast tables. Be welcoming & gracious when you host, and kind & respectful when visiting."

It's been a whole year since I started this blog. It has been a truly wonderful year! Thanks for letting me share my love for polka dots and other delightful things.

Thanks for sharing these great breakfasts with me!

spring color finds

Coincidentally, the colors of these pastel rings are the exact same colors of my recent Spring color finds!

Inspired by eyecandy here and still unable to shake my seafoam green obsession from here, I trotted to SM to find a seafoam green belt.

The one I found wasn't as pretty as I hoped. With its gray tinges, it wasn't as light & cheery as I wanted it to be.

But I found a lot of other belts in pretty spring colors!

And I was weak. I couldn't resist buying all 5 belts!

But it's okay because 3 of them cost just P149.75 each. The pale yellow one was even cheaper at P129.75 and the grayish-green one (the one I wasn't so happy with) was (ironically) the most expensive at P179.75. Still, not bad, right?

I also satisfied my seafoam green craving with this wallet that I got for only P499.75.

It puts a smile on my face every time I look inside my bag! :)

Loving my Spring color finds!

Color Obsession: purple & yellow

I am totally loving the colors of Spring 2012! This particular one is from Madewell's lookbook. And while I'm not sure I am bold enough to wear a purple top & yellow pants together, the combination is certainly catching my eye.

Though the turquoise & spring green are looking lovely too, am really referring to this lady's purple & yellow nail polish.

This - even though I can't even see the dress - I find really sexy.

And here they are again in the 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2012 Collection - this time, a pale lemon yellow with lavender.

And again in J.Crew's Collection - with a pale lavender purse & a marigold skirt.

Ooohh, I am so excited to start wearing these Spring colors!

Color Obsession: gray & yellow

I remember the days when my well-ingrained but ancient design & fashion sensibilities would dictate that cool colors don't mix with warm ones. Remember how I was pushing myself to break my dated self-imposed rules here by pairing gray with camel and silver with gold? Since I started this blog, I've pushed myself to be bolder, to step out of my comfort zone and I've discovered the many beautiful possibilities I never would have even allowed myself to consider in the past. I've certainly come a long way. Now, I not only face the life with a bold "Let's do this!" attitude, but I've also learned not to feel weird about mixing cool colors with warm ones. In fact, I've learned to revel in it. From gray & camel, I've leaped to this delightful combination of gray & yellow.

These pillows make me smile. It's just a simple floral pattern so I figure it's the colors that make it fun. I guess the yellow takes the drab out of gray and the gray tones down yellow's uber brightness and the result is a chic combination.

My kitchen is gray and white like this - more lived in (read: messy) - but with similarly colored dark gray and white cabinets. So now I'm thinking of getting a yellow accent chair for our breakfast nook.

I've always found this kid's bedroom interesting. It seems to be a bedroom that can grow up with the kid. Not overly kiddie that a teenager would hate. The gray and yellow provide a neutral background to the colorful mess of toys of a 6-year-old, but will work just as well when he brings in an electric guitar or drum set as a teen.

This one, just because it's a colored barnyard sliding door, I think I'd love in any color. But it works in gray & yellow too.

And look at the pretty paper possibilities available on Etsy here!

Coincidentally, a friend of mine has picked pewter & marigold as their wedding colors.

But aside from marigold and pale yellow, I've always thought neon yellow looks great with gray (see related post here).

So the past couple of weekends, I've been scouring the mall for a basic gray dress (ideally with a flared skirt). I've already scored a neon yellow belt from SM for just P129.75! But even gray shift dresses have eluded me. I'd also like the blazer of that neon-yellow-nailed woman. Would be nice it was lined in neon yellow so it would peek out when you fold the sleeves! And after seeing Julia Sarr-Jamois' effortless ensemble, I will now add a yellow A-line skirt on my shopping list! Meantime, my yellow belt works just as well with my gray trousers & tops.

Don't you agree that gray & yellow is a delightful, chic combination?

Color Obsession: mustard

I was never really a lover of yellow. But lately, yellow has been catching my eye. It started with this lemongrass equestrian jacket here.

Then I was quite drawn to this marigold.

And these days, I am surprisingly smitten with mustard.

Especially with the idea of pairing it with gray or cobalt or good old navy like these kids from J.Crew did.

Here's how I first wore my mustard Zara shirt. Remember the gray snakeskin pants from here? Am loving them just as much with mustard!

Color Obsession: Neutrals & Brights

A pop of color always goes well with neutrals. But I think there are certain neutrals that look best with particular neons...

Neutrals NAVY and NUDE (see the post that inspired this color pairings post from eyecandy here) look perfect with bright ORANGE.

Neutrals NAVY and WHITE are elegant with bright GREEN.

Neutrals KHAKI and MUSTARD are stunning with bright PINK.
Here is where I beg to disagree with Bally though...

I think neon YELLOW is best matched with neutral GRAY.

Whether or not yellow is paired with black or gray, don't you love these awesome neutral + brights pairings?
