Whimsical Wednesday!

You won't believe who are on the cover of Mega Magazine's February 2013 issue... Betty & Veronica! Turns out it is their first magazine cover ever! How whimsical is that?

I grew up reading Archie Comics. Even Isabella reads them. So I found it so surreal to see them gracing the cover of a Philippine magazine donning couture by top Filipino designers. On the cover, Betty is in a Veejay Floresca creation and Veronica's gown is by Cary Santiago.

Here, Veronica is clad in a daring ensemble by Inno Sotto and Betty's dress is from Furne One.

The newly-launched MAC Archie's Girls color cosmetics collection is what got these comic book icons on the cover of Mega.

It's so adorable how the Betty color collection captures Betty's sweet girl-next-door personality in pinks, peaches & sheer plums... 

A stark contrast to Betty's collection, Veronica's is seductive in vivacious reds, blackened plums & deep violets... The contrast nodding to the epic rivalry between Archie's girls.

Both collections celebrate the distinct personas of these two beloved characters. Not only through the color palettes, but also through the variant names. Betty's collection included names like Girl Next Door, Summer Sweetheart, Pep Pep Pep, Stay Sweet and Kiss & Don't Tell. Aren't they characteristically Betty?

On the other hand, Veronica's collection included names like Daddy's Little Girl, Boyfriend Stealer, Mall Madness, Past Curfew and Prom Princess.

How can you not swoon over full color cosmetics collections (No, they don't just come in lipsticks & gloss.) that remind you of your girlhood with your nose buried in a double digest - reading about the Riverdale gang's adventures in and out of Pop's Choclit Shoppe? Am not sure if I just missed it, but I didn't find MAC's Archie's Girls collection in this whimsical Mega issue (View more of the collection here). The issue did have a surreal interview with Betty & Veronica, as if they were real people.

Indeed, it was a whimsical issue! Love that even Mega Magazine EIC, Sari Yap, was drawn by American illustrator for Archie Comics, Dan Parent.

So put on some MAC lipgloss, grab your copy of this month's Mega issue & maybe even a Betty & Veronica Double Digest, and have a whimsical Wednesday!

Whimsical Wednesday!

Two whimsical things about me: (1) I loooove candy. I would love to have a room in the house filled with candy. And (2) I love pretty things.

So I was giddy with delight in this literal eye candy store: newly-opened Made In Candy at Powerplant Mall Rockwell!

Aren't they the prettiest candies?

Similar to how they make jewelry beads out of polymer clay, the candy artisans keep rolling the layers of candy until they're almost as thin as pencils.

You can watch these candy artisans mold the rock candy right in front of your eyes!

It's amazing how the huge logs are turned into such intricate tiny pieces of candy! The elaborate bunch of grapes and even the ornate butterfly were quite impressive! Isabella even squealed with delight when she inspected a little orange slice and noticed they had tiny seeds (and not just 1 seed per section like the first photo in this post, but 2 to 3 per triangle section!)!

They come assorted in a tiny jar (PhP90), a pouch (PhP100) and a jam-sized jar (PhP260).

The best part is that they're not only lovely to look at; they're also lovely to taste! Each pretty design is a different mix of delicious flavors of hard candy.

Love, love, love this literal eye candy!

Whimsical Wednesday!

Isn't this such an adorable kid's room? I love the whimsical touch of a ferris wheel for storage. Imagine how fun it would be to spin the wheel around to get to the toys you want to play with! And wouldn't it make packing away so much more fun? 

I plan to re-decorate Noah's room in a few months so was looking through my inspiration folder and found these old photos from Sweet Paul Magazine. The issue talks about how the ferris wheel actually utilizes the dead space near the ceiling. So it's not only playful & inventive, it's also functional & a clever use of space. I think the mix of wood and the playful elements make the room one that can grow with the child. Oh, and notice the carpet? They're actually smaller rugs stitched together so that when an inevitable permanent spill happens (as is natural in every kid's room) mom can replace just the damaged rug rather than a whole carpet. Plus, the patchwork of rugs looks pretty cool, right?

Whimsical Wednesday!

Winnie the Pooh said "Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon".

And it's true! Balloons are just whimsical, colorful and happy.

Maybe because balloons remind us of our childhood.

And birthday parties.

Or theme park memories.

Or maybe because balloons inspire us to dream - to fly.

After all, a movie made us think it is possible.

And someone tried to prove it is.

Indeed, "Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon."

So as you drive to work today, imagine you have a bunch of balloons flying with the wind.

And have a whimsical Wednesday!

Whimsical Wednesday!

Are you going on a trip this summer? Will you be spending the night in a whimsical hotel like this? This is the new rainbow Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs, California.

Even their rooms are rainbow-striped!

What about this room in the Au Vieux Panier Hotel in Marseille, France? Would you stay in this Panic Room created by artist Tilt?

Half of the room is in colorful graffiti and the other half is pure white.

Turns out, this unique hotel invites artists, graphic designers and painters to redo their rooms every year.

This is the Pantone Hotel in Brussels, Belgium.

Check out the front desk. Did you notice that the colorful panels look like pantone chips?

I just love those pantone bikes!

The rooms are meant to complement the guest's mood as Pantone Universe believes that strong emotions are evoked by color. I think this is the cheerful, warm room.

Notice the pantone chips on the wall? This one is likely the daring, fiery room.

The hotel boasts of the widest selection of Pantone products worldwide. And I think this is my favorite! I'd love to bring these home for our breakfast nook!

Whimsical Wednesday!

It's the middle of the workweek once again. Check out J.Crew's latest answers to a woman's daily morning question of "What am I going to wear to work today?"

While I totally love these work outfits (particularly the telegraph pencil skirt and the tailored 1035 suit), I think we should dress differently today. Because it is the most whimsical Wednesday of all... it's the rare leap-year-Wednesday! So wear some J.Crew glitter to work today...

Whimsical Wednesday!

It's the middle of the workweek once again. Time to inject some color & creativity into your workplace. I love this idea of coloring outdoor tiles with chalk.

Primarily because I don't draw very well. If I were armed with colored chalk, it will probably take me several minutes just thinking of something my meager drawing skills could produce. With the defined shape of the tiles, all I need to do is pick up a chalk and color! Instantly, I would be able to inject color & creativity into my day.

This would be a fun weekend activity for a playdate. I love that it would work for any age - from 2 to 92 - because it's simply coloring in the shapes on the ground.

And voila! Isn't the end result so colorful & pretty?

So go ahead. Pull out some colored markers. And color in between the lines of your work notebook and create a pretty striped pattern. This color & creativity will surely recharge your brain (and spirits!) for the rest of the workweek ahead!
