Today, I am loving...

Today, I am loving... these sweet and clever his & hers items. From morning coffee mugs to paper coffee cups...

To a way to mark your side of the bed...

I have this funny lovers' spat pillowcase set in navy. I got them from me&u in Eastwood.

They also have this charming set.

But this is my favorite his & hers item... These ice cream spoons...

They make it necessary for a couple to share a scoop of ice cream. Isn't that the sweetest?

Today, I am loving... the idea of having such sweet & clever his & hers items around the house.

Whimsical Wednesday!

Winnie the Pooh said "Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon".

And it's true! Balloons are just whimsical, colorful and happy.

Maybe because balloons remind us of our childhood.

And birthday parties.

Or theme park memories.

Or maybe because balloons inspire us to dream - to fly.

After all, a movie made us think it is possible.

And someone tried to prove it is.

Indeed, "Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon."

So as you drive to work today, imagine you have a bunch of balloons flying with the wind.

And have a whimsical Wednesday!

Color Obsession: lavender

Lavender has been catching my eye lately. It started when I saw this lavender stingray Anya Hindmarch Minaudiere here.

Then I saw this VW camper. Okay, maybe this Kombi is more periwinkle or thistle than lavender, but I guess I'm loving all sorts of soft purple!

Then, I bought a copy of InStyle's May 2012 issue...

And finally, this lavender Hermes...

... which introduced me to the lavender & brown combination. And got me thinking about other colors that can go with lavender. Check out this palette I made on Polyvore.

My picks, by color, are:
  • Lavender & Yellow - Kenneth Cole Yellow Circle Pendant and Kate Spade 'triple threat' faceted bangle
  • Lavender & Orange - Debenhams Statement Orange Stone Ring and Tory Burch logo pendant necklace
  • Lavender & Navy - Proenza Schouler Mini PS1 Pouch
  • Lavender & Brown - Mulberry braided leather belt, Fossil Brown Tone Dyed River Shell Stretch bracelet, Marc by Marc Jacobs Brown Wooden Bolt bangle and Cartier Ballon Bleu Brown Dial men's watch (I looove that this Ballon Bleu has a brown face!)
  • Lavender & Gray - Palazzo Bruciato Giorgia leather lace-up shoes (but I would have loved to pair this ensemble with silver Sergio Rossi brogues!)
  • Lavender & Nude - Michael Kors stretch-cotton broadcloth shorts
  • Lavender & Seafoam Green - Debenhams Mint Green Chunky Enamel bangle and Zara Pointed Ballerinas with Bow

Ooohh, I am still loving Spring's pastels!

drawing art

I know I usually feature non-traditional art. But this video of traditional drawing with a Faber Castell pen is just too amazing! The man in the video draws without even lifting his pen and creates a masterpiece by simply drawing in circles.
I have no idea if it is real: if it was just a camera trick. But these next ones are definitely real, no tricks - made with just a pencil & paper. 7-year-old Noah's drawings from the past 2 months...

This next one was inspired by my Herbie sighting
By the 2nd movie on a Muppets marathon Saturday on Fox Family Movies, came this drawing of Kermit. He didn't finish it though, because he wasn't very happy with it. And I have no idea why...
While watching Pooh on Disney Junior (another one he didn't think was perfect enough to finish)...
And another of many Woody drawings over the years by this avid Toy Story fan...
Finally, his Lego Harry Potter drawing that blew me away...
Is it obvious Noah beats me at Pictionary and Draw Something all the time? Unfortunately, I never thought of taking a snapshot of his Draw Something masterpieces. Unlike these people's unbelievable Draw Something drawings

Noah says...

We watched The Avengers this weekend and although I was laughing out loud throughout the movie, it was Noah that got me ROTFL.

The moviehouse was packed so the seats we got were in 2 rows. He sat behind me and I heard him laughing out loud during Ironman's "Shakespeare in the park" jab at Thor.

So later, I asked him if he knew who Shakespeare was. And he answered, "All I know is Britney Spears."

If I were drinking tea like Jane Foster & Black Widow here, I'd probably have spat it out!

I wonder if Natalie Portman got paid for a mere photo cameo? If not, then I wonder why they didn't just limit Gwyneth Paltrow's role to a photo?

She must cost a lot. After all, she's not only Pepper Potts, she also won an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love.

Not Shakespeare, just Britney Spears! Hysterical!

my pretend closet: Celine box bag

It started with the seafoam green version here. But seafoam green or not, I am still crushing on the Celine box bag. I know I'm obsessed because I am loving it in any color now.

But because I've sworn off purse-chases here (proudly, I've been a really good girl) and because it is incredibly expensive (have you seen how much it costs?!), I am glad I have a pretend closet. Or I will start justifying it in my head as a timeless classic.

I can pretend to wear it on my shoulder like the blue one above. Or as a clutch.

But my favorite is with this cape here.

Swoon!

some polka dots i spotted...

I'm not sure if the Gender Reveal Party trend has caught on in Manila. Personally, I've never been to one. But I would have loved to be invited to this party primarily because of the polka dotted tablecloth and the yellow & gray color motif (see related post here).

I do like the idea of a mom-to-be hosting a party to celebrate finding out her baby's gender together with friends and family. I just love these he-or-she chocolate souvenirs!

And for the grand reveal, here are a few ideas to unveil the baby's gender... You can fill cupcakes with pink or blue buttercream icing. Everyone can bite into their cupcake all at the same time and find out... it's a boy!

Or you can fill a balikbayan box with pink or blue helium balloons and let the parents-to-be open the box in front of everyone...

Isn't it a lovely idea? I'm just not sure this game of guessing the gender will ever catch on here in the Philippines... Because of the Filipino belief that an expectant mom looks pretty & blooming when she's having a girl - and the exact opposite if she's having a boy. I imagine that everyone who voted "boy" will not be invited to the next party.

With or without the guessing game, I think the idea of a Gender Reveal event is sweet though. Whether you have a whole party with all your friends & family or an intimate one like this family here who asked their ultrasound technician to write the gender on a piece of paper. Then they brought the paper to a baby store and asked the clerk to wrap a blue or pink outfit depending on what was on the piece of paper. It was Christmas so they opened the present on Christmas morning and pulled out this pink polka-dotted onesie!

This couple here decided to do it via pancakes. They slipped the envelope from their ultrasound technician to the waitress at a diner and the pancakes that arrived told them whether they were having a boy or a girl. Yes, of course I noticed the polka-dotted ribbons on the baby boy & baby girl labels on the bowls of blueberries & strawberries.

Their photographer friend captured their reaction. And this is what I like best about these Gender Reveal events. Whether you do it via a big party or an intimate gathering of just immediate family, I love the idea of capturing the genuinely thrilled reaction when the gender is unveiled!

I imagine Noah would be delighted to see a photo of our reaction when we found out we were having a boy.
