contemporary choose your own adventure

Do you remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books (if you don't, check eyecandy's post here)?

Love how Madewell's holiday video is like a Choose Your Own Adventure for the digital age.

You have 5 seconds to make your choice. And every choice you make showcases Madewell's latest pieces.

It's soooo cool! I ended up trying out all the possible "adventures". Make your choices here.

rubik's cube art

For some odd geeky reason, a few years ago, I added 'mastering how to complete a rubik's cube puzzle' to my bucket list. So far, I can easily complete 2 layers (and 1 side). I haven't learned how to do the 3rd layer (and other side) yet. I thought that was difficult enough an accomplishment. Until I saw this...

... art made out of Rubik's Cubes!

Here's the finished Rubik's Cube replica of the Creation of Adam from the Sistine Chapel.

Would you have been able to tell this was made entirely out of Rubik's Cubes? Who would have thought one could make extraordinary art out of the ordinary cubed puzzle? Absolutely amazing!

Whimsical Wednesday!

We have locator boards at the office. They're tiny whiteboards in a silver frame stand. Whenever we're out of the office, we write down where we are with a whiteboard marker: "seminar" or "VL" (vacation leave) or "FGD" (focus group discussion) or "Sing" (for say, a meeting at our Singapore headquarters).

I got this nameplate from Lego and I use it as my locator board. I like how it brings some whimsy into my workplace. It's also great for when Noah's at the office. He has instant Lego bricks to play with instead of (egad!) running in the hallways!

I can't wait for the Christmas break to spell out "Christmas"! Meantime, have a whimsical Wednesday!

some polka dots i spotted...

It's so adorable how Ikea divided this room without a divider! I imagine that a shared room between sisters will look cramped with an actual divider. This allows them to differentiate their space while still imbibing the whole idea of "sharing".

I just love how the younger one from the polka dotted side of the room transferred to the striped side to share what looks like a bedtime story.

Isn't this the most charming shared room?

tattoos

My low tolerance for pain and discomfort around the permanence of tattoos will keep me from ever getting one. But if I ever muster up the courage to get one, the one above - which reads "I'm the hero of this story. I don't need to be rescued." could be the one. It is the appropriate message for someone tough enough to get a tattoo. After all, she's likely not the type to be a damsel in distress. I also love the typeface it comes in.

Here are other interesting ones...

... and some funny ones...

Would you get one of these?

Color Obsession: black & white

Black & white patterns & prints have been catching my attention these days. I don't mean the black & white in black & white photos.

Somehow, this 'black & white' doesn't feel lively enough for the festive season at hand. The black & white I am drawn to these days is black & white in full color... Like the stunning black & white striped curtains in the photo above and this striped chair...

Or this woman's elegant combination of black & white checks & polka dots...

Or these black & white chevron prints and shower curtain illustration here...

Or even the Darth Vader wall decal here...

Don't you think these fun & quirky patterns & prints take the austere out of black & white? I just love black & white in full color.

Oh, and I just had to add these season-appropriate, black & white striped gifts!
