secret-keeping dolls

I've always found these Japanese dolls so cute. In fact, ever since I saw one of these Kimmidoll pendants on my friend R, I've been checking Rustan's every now and then for new stock (sadly, they're perpetually out-of-stock).

They're also available as keychains.

And collectible dolls in various sizes...

I just learned here that another brand of Kokeshi dolls called Momiji have message dolls. The dolls have a small space at the base so when you turn them upside down, you will find a tiny folded card meant to contain a secret message. So adorable, right?

Then in the oddest of places - in the sanitary napkin aisle, I found these Japanese dolls!

Now isn't this the cutest packaging? Coincidentally, it's for their ultra thin napkins. To be honest, I had been a maxi pad user for the longest time. I always had to feel the bulk so that I would be confident I was protected. But about 2 years ago, I switched to Modess Ultra Thins because it promised discreet protection via microprotect crystals that absorb 100x its weight. 100x its weight! How amazing is that?

So now, no one has to know I have my period. It's my monthly secret-keeper! And with their new pretty packaging, who can tell they contain sanitary napkins?

Plus, the pouches are in polka-dots! Puts a delightful touch to dreary period days! :)

some polka dots i spotted...

The first thing I noticed about the post on Ruby's room in designsponge was the polka-dotted shoes of mommy & baby. Then I noticed mommy & baby also both had shiny gold shoes strewn on the carpet of Ruby's room. Then I noticed how much this mommy must love polka-dots. With the polka-dotted pillows (one is gray & neon pink and the other is gray & yellow!), dotted wall decals, dotted pink socks on Ruby and the dotted yellow fabric boxes on Ruby's shelves.

It didn't occur to me until I read through two more posts from designsponge that Ruby's room belonged to a series that shared, not only people's homes, but what they loved most about their home. I love Ruby's mom's wishes for her baby.

So even though I didn't necessarily love the design aesthetic of the houses featured in the series, I felt that the handwritten notes on what the owners loved about their home made the homes special. This one is the home of a certain Paula...

And this one is the home of a certain Camille...

This is the home of a certain Sarah... Have to say I love the hot pink ampersand (see related post here) and all the pops of color.

And this is what I love about my home as you might already know from here.

What about you? What do you love most about your home?

You could look at it this way...
Or this way...

thank you notes

Leah Dietrich's mother always told her to write thank-you-notes. So she does. To everything. Everyday. thxthxthx is a blog documenting her daily exercise in gratitude.

I love how she is able to find something to be thankful for in EVERYTHING. She sees the good in what most will see as bad - like a 34A chest or a full inbox. She finds something to be thankful for in the most mundane realities: tape, red droplets on the street and her ponytail - noticing what usually goes unnoticed. She finds deeper meaning to be thankful for in the most unlikely places: how finding it difficult to spell "diarrhea" means she has not encountered it enough.

Her positivity is amazing! What about you? What would you write a thank-you-note for today?
